We’re committed to getting good food to the people in our community who need it most. That’s why, in 2024, we partnered with Evergreen Trust – a local not‑for‑profit that provides home care services for older residents.

Many Evergreen clients have limited mobility and can’t leave their homes without support. So since 2023 our brilliant Second Helpings volunteer cooks use rescued food to prepare lunch bags that are delivered straight to their doors every Friday. Each one includes hot, freshly made soup and bread, plus extras like fruit, crisps, biscuits, cakes, or sausage rolls.

The service is aimed at those in greatest need, for example, people who are housebound, socially isolated, vulnerable, bereaved or recuperating from surgery or illness. People who would most benefit from a nutritious meal and seeing a regular friendly face.  

We also spread some festive cheer on Christmas Day by delivering a full turkey dinner to these residents, with Evergreen volunteers making sure everything arrives in time for lunch.

And thanks to the generous donations we receive, we’re proud to offer this service completely free of charge.
